Practicing ProVOCative:
A down and dirty approach to raising your (actual) voice

PART 1: INTERRUPTING RACISM

You’re probably tired of playing nice.
You’re probably aware not everyone’s going to like all the things you want to express in the name of justice
You know speaking up aint always pretty, but how often do you actually practice….with your actual voice?
Time to roll up your sleeves, dive into the muck and ask yourself:

When it’s your moment to stand up and speak big truth, will you have the courage?

With a strong, loving container and central focus on embodiment, the dare is on. Through creative partner and group exercises we practice interrupting moments of racism with our voices. We practice staying present with our fear and expanding our capacity for discomfort. We practice fucking up and trying again. We practice calling out and calling in with compassion. We dive into darkness on purpose with the intention of training our hearts and voices to show up proudly for ourselves and our communities. Through this process we gain confidence in speaking up, trust in our voices and shared intimacy with our fellow badass journeyers.  Do you dare?

PART 2: SPEAKING CONSENT/VOCALIZING OUR DESIRES

You’re probably tired of keeping quiet.
You’re probably aware not everyone’s going to like all the things you want to express in all your sexy glory.
You know speaking up aint always easy, but how often do you actually practice….with your actual voice?
Time to roll up your sleeves, dive in and ask yourself:

When it’s your moment to stand up and speak your full truth, will you have the courage?

With a strong, loving container and central focus on embodiment, the dare is on. Through creative partner and group exercises we practice proudly stating our boundaries as well as our desires. We practice staying present with our fears and creating safety for ourselves. We practice fucking up and trying again. We practice saying no and yes with conviction and compassion. We dive in on purpose with the intention of training our hearts and voices to show up strong for ourselves and our communities.Through this process we gain confidence in speaking up, trust in our voices and shared intimacy with our fellow badass journeyers. Do you dare?

Dani Hayes
is a Medical Doctor, public health scientist, eco-anarchist and practical idealist. He’s been playing, dancing, meditating and conversing CI for over a decade and actively sharing his curiosity and knowledge and doubts for the past eight years.. He is the founder of the Touch&Play Project, which explores the edges of Contact Improvisation by inviting our (al)chemical bodies into the dance. Through artistic and academic research he hopes to highlight the potential of CI as a tool to create authentic connections with oneself and the other by bringing it into play, communication, BDSM, therapy, education, sexuality, somatic mindfulness and more.

Liquid Love

Liquid Love is a collective experience exploring the sensuality of flowing skin to skin contact using warm organic oil.  The concept is simple: we will pour warm, fine, neutral oil on to your skin, from where it will spread out over your whole body and form a lubricious substance, which allows you to float in a sea together with other oily bodies.  Everyone is invited to respect their own rhythm and limits to touch and nudity.

We invite you to move and allow yourself to be moved without intentions or sexual orientation. Releasing our usual desire to take action on erotic sensations and thoughts we invite you to be present with them and to relax into the energetic flow of the bodies around you. This is a place where you can love and be loved in an impersonal and unbound manner and above all a place to super charge your soul.

Bound 2 Dance

A simple exploration of what happens to our dances and connections when we introduce a rope or two or three…
With a beginners mind and through a suggestive regression to our childhood we will start by playing and moving by ourselves with this new ever-bending and never-stretching dance partner.
Once we feel curious and comfortable we will pair up with others that might or might not have a rope of their own and explore how these different power dynamics and these bridges can inform our physical dialogues. Finally, if time permits we will create a small rope jam where participants can freely interact with others and the ropes in the space. The work is open to everyone and focuses on the connection aspect of bondage we will however be learning one or two simple knots and going over some general guidelines to keep everyone safe and sound. (If you have your own ropes please bring them along)

An invitation to connect to our own fluids and our capability to transform and clear out. Let’s connect to what feels pleasurable here and now through our liquid body, transgressing social and group norms and creating new cultures. We will be invited to explore a wide palette of energies from sacred to humiliation to curiosity and playfulness. An embodied reflexion on how our society relates to and deals with waist. Taina Lyons

I live in Southern Vermont with my husband and two young children. I am a community connector, relationship builder / tender, psychologist, doula, dance teacher, tantric lover of life and ritual maker. I hold an Undergraduate degree in Psychology and Asian Studies and a Masters degree in Holistic Mental Health Counseling. Over the past 10 years I have offered clinical mental health services, birth and childcare services, and have worked to create many personal and community ceremonies and rituals. I have a strong call to service and sharing healing with more people and communities.

Ritual of Grief & Eros:
Waters of the Soul

(Co-facilitated w/ Z (Zahava) Griss)

Inspired by Sobonfu Some’s grief rituals of the Dagara Tribe in Burkina Faso, we draw on the wisdom of this culture to address our shared human need to feel and transform grief, pain, disappointment and loss. We are expanding on this tradition by exploring the embodied connection between eros and grief through shaking, vocalizing, and deep release. This ritual is not just about emotional expression, it is about being a village that loves unconditionally. It is about a presence with each other that communicates “all is well.”

We recognize grief and eros as powerful ways to release what we have been resisting so we can surrender to what is true. This healing ritual increases our resilience to look, see, tell the truth, and take authentic action that restores our aliveness, our compassion, and ability to live our life’s intentions. Our time together includes learning about different forms of grief and eros, sharing what breaks our heart, and releasing the waters of the soul at the altar with music, movement, and community support through touch and witnessing. Come allow what is yearning to move through you to open you more deeply to the fullness of your life.

Note: This is a 4 hour ritual with a closed container (meaning no entering in the middle)

Binding the Spirit in Motion

Rope has been used as a conduit for energy for many years. When moved into the form of rope bondage, it has connected many spirits and allowed expression of inner desires. It has multiple uses in art, communication, and enlightenment. The only limits are knowledge of your path and those imposed on the partners in the dance. This workshop is designed to introduce players to rope and some of the forms that are derived from Asian style rope bondage. It will also introduce rope as a multifaceted tool (conduit, artistic instrument, dance partner), and how to manipulate it the way you wish safely. We will also discuss how to consider your intent, define your intent for a particular encounter, and how to convey that intent with your partner. Players should bring 3-4 pieces of rope close to 25 ft in length.

Murphy Blue

Murphy Blue has been bringing his kink knowledge and signature style wherever he could since the turn of the century. A self-claimed “Rope Monk”, Murphy tries to focus not just on the *how’s* of tying, but the frequently forgotten *whys*. The interplay of people and energy through rope and gestures is something that should be passed along, and Murphy does his best to assist with that. Murphy is on a lifelong journey for more information about the art of rope bondage, to experience different fetish environments and learn new skills. He roams the world, sharing insight, gaining knowledge, and saving the world, one knot at a time.

Betty Martin

Betty spent her childhood in a large family and mis-spent her youth in experimental communities, learning about people in more kinds of groups than she can count. She practiced Chiropractic for almost 30 years, including body-mind integration modalities. She has taught Peer Counseling for teens and adults, gender empowerment and sexuality workshops for both women and men, and boundary and communication workshops of many flavors, including Cuddle Parties.

She has had a private practice as an erotic educator in Seattle, and these days is focused on training other hands-on professionals in boundaries, communication and professional standards. She is the developer of the Wheel of Consent, a model of interaction based on giving and receiving. (When you are touching, is it for you or for them, why does it matter and why do you need both options alive and well?)

The Wheel of Consent

In addition to classes during the festival Betty will be offering this work on opening day for all participants in order to create a shared understanding that we can all learn and play within for the course of the festival!

The Wheel of Consent is a model exploring Receiving, Giving, Taking and Allowing. It distinguishes between who is ‘doing’ and who it’s for. When you are touching, is it for them or for you? Why does is matter and why do we need both options alive and well?

The Wheel of Consent offer some insights on, well, consent. Including knowing when to be generous and when to be selfish, how to tend to your limits, how to act on your desire, and how to create spaciousness. The more responsibility you take, the more freedom you have.

This class will include some instruction and some exploring. The instruction will be on the four quadrants of the Wheel of Consent. I’ll be showing you how to find them and develop them. Then we’ll experiment using them in the context of improvisation – where do they fit and where do they not? What can we find as we stick to a structured format, and then what can we find as we open it up? I’m looking forward to seeing what we discover together. THIRD CLASS: This class will return to deepen our investigation of The Wheel of Consent is a model exploring Receiving, Giving, Taking and Allowing. It distinguishes between who is ‘doing’ and who it’s for. When you are touching, is it for them or for you? Why does is matter and why do we need both options alive and well?

Zen and the Erotic Art of BDSM

Zen and the Erotic Art of BDSM is a class that applies Zen principles, practices and philosophies to not only the hegemonic aspects of our lifestyle but also offers us a deep and meaningful insight into surrender, submission and more… In this class we will discuss:

– Viewing submission as a way of life and not a series of random acts of obedience.

– Using Zen principles as a way of viewing our sexuality as an expression of our authentic self.

– How mindfulness training can become instrumental in implementing protocols and rituals.

– How instituting Buddhist principles and breathing practices can assist with processing pain.

But most of all, this class is about fostering deeper and more meaningful connections between ourselves and our partner. So bring an open mind and a full heart

This intensive offers an opportunity to for you to journey through a series of intimacy enhancing embodied inquiries.
